Life Membership for Ken Douglass

At the 2021 Annual General Meeting the President announced the nomination of Ken Douglass for a Life Membership which was approved unanimously.

In his letter nominating Ken for the honor, Paul Delves wrote:

“Ken joined our Club in 2004 and quickly became involved in club activities. We have

benefited greatly from his previous experience as a sports administrator, in particular his

long involvement in Baseball as a player, coach, umpire and manager. His contribution to

that sport saw him elected as a life member of Baseball NSW and BaseballAustralia.

“Ken is currently Vice-president of our Club’s Board and among many other roles, he has

taken responsibility for the overall management of the Club and its activities, including

supervision of green keeping and bar staff, contractors and general Club maintenance. His

energy is boundless. He will mow, roll and water the greens if staff are sick, will work

behind the bar, clean toilets, glass and fix anything he can to save employing a contractor,

and he will plant trees and plants in his spare time. He regularly organises working bees

for members.

“Ken is a keen bowler and is passionate to see the game survive at North Epping. But he is

shrewd enough to see bowls revenue has to be supplemented from other sources. He

helps organise the regular social functions at the club, as well as special seasonal events.

He has successfully promoted the use of Club premises and facilities for social occasions

in the wider community, and was the driving force behind the establishment of the

children’s play areas. And in recent weeks, he has supervised the refurbishment of the

kitchen to make the Club more attractive as a venue.

“Ken has also been a central figure in the development of the Club’s multi-purpose sports

courts, maintaining a close working relationship with North Epping Rangers and with

Hornsby Council.

“During the COVID period, Ken has kept abreast of Government support policies and

health regulations. He has ensured that the Club has accessed all levels of assistance

available during the lock-down periods.

“For a long period Ken has been the Bowl’s Administrator for the Men’s Bowling Club. He

runs the annual bowls program for social bowls (twice weekly) and all competitions

including special carnivals

“Above is a brief snapshot of the significant contribution Ken has made to our Club. lt would

be fitting that this contribution be recognised at the AGM through the election of Ken as a

Life Member.”
