Club elects two new Life Members
At the club’s AGM members unanimously endorsed the Board’s recommendation to elect Elisabeth (Libby) Watford and Prue Spaul as Life members of the Club.
Extracts from the citations noted:
Prue Spaul (top photo):
She has served in many capacities of the Executive during most of her membership. She was President of the Women’s Bowling Club from 2011 to 2013 and during that time was also member of the Board, being the first woman to join the Board. She took this role very seriously and worked hard to ensure the success and survival of both the Bowling and Community Club, and to give the Women members a voice at Board level.
All in all, Prue has shown by example, what a great team player she is, and we feel that her 20+ years of service to the Club deserves recognition.
Prue Spaul is passionate about lawn bowls and the North Epping Bowling and Community Club and has given very generously of her time and talents.
Libby Watford (bottom photo):
In 2009 Libby was voted in as Secretary to the Women’s Club and is still undertaking that job. It is this role which in our opinion is exceptional. She keeps up to date with State rules, the Club’s Constitution and liaises with the Men’s Club whenever it is required. Without Libby being the Secretary, we believe that the Women’s Club would not exist. No-one will put up their hand to take over the role. It is a very busy role, probably less so now that numbers are lower, but over past years we had a larger and very active group of bowlers. Libby also keeps in touch with all our old members who can no longer participate in the sport, making sure they know of any social activities which they could attend.
Prior to 2009 Libby was Treasurer of the Ladies club. Libby has also served as Delegate to both Northern Suburbs and Macquarie District. Again, this role was taken on with vigour. During the time of Ken Austin being Secretary for the Board, Libby stepped up and was Minutes Secretary for him and the Board.
